About the Chambord Coffee Maker
The Bodum Chambord is a true original and a beloved Bodum icon worldwide. The iconic design, now synonymous with the Bodum name, dates back to the pre-war period.
The Italian, Attilo Calimani, developed the principle behind this product during the 1930s. It began to gain popularity in cafés after the war, achieving its breakthrough in France in the 1950s.
Jørgen Bodum started working on his own version of the French press in the 1970s, being an enthusiast of the coffee that comes from the French press method of brewing.
Bodum started producing its Bistro French press with the French company Melior-Martin who, at that time, manufactured the coffeemakers in their French factory. They produced a dome-shaped version similar to the Bodum Chambord. (The CHAMBORD design was inspired by the tower of the famous French castle Chambord.)
Bodum acquired Melior-Martin in 1991 and brought this icon to households worldwide. The Bodum Chambord was then further developed and improved to what it is today.
To this day we continue to produce the CHAMBORD® with the same artisan craftsmanship of the past, but with a focus on environmentally responsible manufacturing in our BODUM-owned factory in Portugal. The French press system continues to be a greener way to brew coffee with the truest flavour possible.
After its long history, the Chambord French press today still lives up to our core belief at Bodum: “make taste, not waste”.
Main Features & Benefits
- Iconic French press coffee maker that brings out the full flavor and aroma of your brew.
- The carafe is made of shatterproof, BPA-free SAN plastic that’s scratch resistant, non-deformable by heat, and resistant to temperature changes.
- The frame and lid is made from durable stainless steel that’s undergone several chrome-plating processes to result in a durable, shiny surface capable of withstanding many years of use.
- The handle is made from Polypropylene with a matte finish that gives a comfortable grip while serving and adds to the classic quality of the design.
- Stainless steel plunger prevents ground beans escaping when the coffee is poured.
- More environmentally friendly than many coffee-brewing methods – no paper filters or plastic capsules required.
- Easy to use and easy to clean.
Use & Care
The French press system is the simplest way to brew rich, flavorful coffee.
- Place the CHAMBORD on a flat surface, hold the handle firmly, and pull the plunger up and out of the carafe.
- Add one rounded teaspoon or one Bodum scoop of coarsely ground coffee for each cup/4oz water.
- Pour hot water into the carafe (about 92-96ºC) leaving a minimum of 2.5cm/1inch at the top, and stir with a plastic or wooden spoon.
- Place the plunger unit on top of the pot and turn the lid so the pour spout is closed to retain the heat.
- Leave four minutes to brew, then slowly lower the plunger. Turn the lid to open the pour spout and pour your delicious cup of joe.
- Wash in warm, soapy water before first use and dry thoroughly. All parts are dishwasher safe.
*All of our coffee and tea makers are measured in European cup sizes: 1 Cup = about 4oz.
